Desert Guided Hike

FAQ

Below are the questions we are asked most often. To see the answer just click on the question. If you have a question we have not listed below please CONTACT US or call toll free at 866-615-2748.

•What is Take a Hike Arizona?
At Take a Hike Arizona our goal is to provide an opportunity for our guests to experience, explore, and enjoy the desert in a manner that is safe, fun, and educational, while at the same time promoting preservation of the desert ecosystem.
•Why should I take a guided desert hike?
We do all the preparation and planning for you. Safety is our number one concern. In our experience, we often encounter individuals, families and groups who are not properly prepared for hiking in the desert. They do not have the proper hiking supplies or water. They do not know which way to go on a trail or what to expect. At the very least, it can make for a less than enjoyable hike. In some situations, it can be dangerous.

The City of Phoenix Fire Department averages a mountain rescue every three days. Most of those rescues are people who are unfamiliar and unprepared for the desert. Hikers can also overlook the spectacular, out of the way scenery that's hard to spot with the untrained eye, and miss out on seeing and learning about the plants and animals of the desert. You've come all this way to hike the world's most diverse desert, why not make the most of it?
• How much do the hikes cost?
All of our excursions are private and pricing depends on the number of people included in your reservation. For example, a half-day hiking excursion for 4 guests is $65 per person. Guests on all or our hikes are provided with plenty of bottled water, a variety of snacks, use of trekking poles, use of a backpack and are accompanied by a knowledgeable, First Aid/CPR certified guide. Please contact us by email or by phone 480-634-8488 for further information.
• Are prices discounted for children?
This Spring season (2012) we are offering some great deals for families! We love hiking with families and sharing stories and interesting facts about our unique desert ecosystem. This year we want to get more kids out into the Sonoran Desert to learn about this beautiful area and develop an appreciation for our natural environment. With that said, we are thrilled to let you know that for each paying adult, a child (12 and under) hikes free! If you have more kids than adults, the additional kids are 50% off! Also kids ages 13-17 are 50% off. You will find that our hiking program for kids is fun and entertaining. Similar to our adult participants, each child is provided with snacks and plenty of bottled water. Additionally, each child is provided a smaller size backpack that will fit them properly (they love to feel part of the group). They are also given a disposable camera (theirs to keep) with a cool desert photography guide that will help them capture memories of their trip into the Sonoran Desert.

Kids that participate on our hikes also have the opportunity to play Desert Bingo and desert trivia games. Lastly, a little memento is given to each child to take home with them to remember their adventure. We want parents to relax and enjoy their hiking experience. We'll keep the kids engaged and amused. Our hiking excursion will be a fun adventure for each child.
